Fear was my motivator. I still remember the moment when, after a long summer break, I refused to do my homework. My mother wasn't having it and locked me out of the house in the dark until I promised to do this and never throw a tantrum while I was doing my homework. Yes, at that time I thought it was a bit cruel of my mother to lock a 6 year old in the dark. But as I get older, I understand why she did what she did. She wanted to go to college and have a career, but she couldn't do that because her single mother couldn't support her financially. Instead of going to college, she had to get married at the age of 19. My father also couldn't go to college due to financial reasons. They both worked very hard to financially support my brother and me and put us through college. They had provided me with the resources and I will and will make the most of them. I really hope I can make my parents proud
