    From the start of the American Civil War in 1860 until the end of Reconstruction in 1877, the United States of America endured what can be considered a revolution. Before 1860, there was a lack of unity due to the flourishing of central government power rather than state power. There was therefore a split between opposing camps, the North and the South, which were fighting for authority. One of the major issues that came to mind was the issue of slavery. In the beginning, some laws were passed to limit or rather prevent the outbreak of conflict, such as the Many Compromises, the Missouri Compromise and the Compromise of 1850. They did not meet the needs of the states, especially the states of the South ; that is why, in 1860, the civil war had started. There was the issue of black inequality in voting rights, politics and use of public facilities. However, many constitutional and social advances during this period culminated in revolution. To a radical extent, constitutional development between 1860 and 1877 amounted to a revolution because of events such as the Emancipation Proclamation, the Civil Rights Act, and the amendments that attempted to change the lives of African Americans in the American society and helped bring the union together. There are also social developments which, to a lesser extent, constituted a revolution due to the absence of organizations like the Klu Klux Klan, the Freedmen's Bureau and discrimination against African Americans which caused a progression violence and white supremacy. In the early 1860s there were constitutional developments that arose to a radical extent because the beliefs of American citizens on the issue of slavery were sufficient.
