  • Essay / Dorothea Orem's Self-Care Deficit Theory - 882

Self-care deficit theory answers the question of why people need nursing care, which is related to factors related to nursing limitations individual which lead to the individual inability to realize oneself. -take care properly. According to Parker and Smith (2010), “Nursing care is legitimate or necessary when the individual's self-care capabilities and care demands are equal to, less than, or greater than at any given time. With the existence of this inequality, there is a deficit of self-care and nursing care is necessary” (p. 126). As a Med-Surg nurse, I am confronted daily with patients who have various limitations. By incorporating Orem's Self-Care Deficit Theory into my practice, it guides and improves my practice by carefully assessing the patient's needs and identifying their needs.
