RadiologistRadiology is a branch of medical science. It uses x-rays and other types of technology to create images of the body's inner workings. Radiologists use these images, which use a wide variety of imaging technologies, to diagnose and treat diseases. A radiologist's job is to use radiant energy to create images from which to diagnose patients. As soon as this is done, the radiologist communicates his findings to the patient's doctor; so that a treatment plan can be developed. Additionally, a radiologist may perform procedures using radiation. Medical radiology has existed since 1895, when Wilhelm Rontgen discovered X-rays. This machine being available in most physics departments, it was accessible to as many people as possible. The mechanism systematically improved and hospitals began to obtain equipment. Early X-rays were first made on glass photographic plates, but George Eastman pioneered the use of film in 1918. X-rays have been used for therapeutic purposes since ancient times; doctors from an x-ray department also took care of therapy and diagnosis. Specific interests in diagnosis and therapy did not evolve until the 1930s. There are many subspecialties from which a radiologist can choose; breast imaging, cardiovascular radiology, thoracic radiology, emergency radiology, gastrointestinal radiology, head and neck radiology, musculoskeletal radiology, neuroradiology, pediatric radiology, genitourinary radiology and interventional radiology to name a few a few. The Society and College of Radiographers was founded in 1920 and is the oldest and most competent radiography organization in the world. It is the only organization in the UK that represents all radiographic staff. The Company ...... middle of paper ...... transferred technologies? Only time will tell. I think radiology is a good job for me because it involves a lot of problem solving and critical thinking. Additionally, I once spent a day with a few radiologists at Kaiser in Walnut Creek and really enjoyed my day there. “X-ray Equipment: Going Digital” citation page. Medical Buyer (2013)ProQuest.
