  • Essay / Agile Development: A New Wave of Software Development

SUMMARYAgile methodology is a term that I have encountered more and more during my exposure to professionals in the IS field. Whether it's networking activities, interviews, or general conversations, I repeatedly hear "agile methodology" in reference to systems development and project management, where it is referenced as the method “latest and most efficient” development software. This made me wonder what exactly is Agile methodology, when is it best for a development team to use Agile, why is Agile the "in" methodology, how is it implemented implemented and what are the results of “becoming agile”. In this roundup series, I'll browse blogs and networking sites across the Internet, use various journals, and interview other students and professionals in the IS field to find out the what, when, why, and how of Agile methodology. While preparing this summary, I discovered that Agile is an umbrella term for at least ten different methodologies with three common key principles based on the Agile Manifesto.
