  • Essay / The Diary of Anne Frank: a film that everyone should watch

The Second World War is one of the most important events in all of human history and has a huge influence on the world until today. People's lives changed a lot during World War II, which provided very good subjects for literary works. There were many films and books that talked about holocausts and battles. Through these great works, people can learn more about World War II. The Diary of Anne Frank, a film about the lives of a group of Jews in hiding because of the Holocaust, not only shows the cruelty of the Nazis, but also shows the emotional changes of a teenage girl. A lot of effort went into the process of publishing the book and producing the film. Anne Frank's diary was discovered by Miep Gies in Mr. and Mrs. Frank's bedroom, and she risked her life to keep the diary and some papers with Anne's handwriting (Gies 173). After the war, Miep returned Anne's diary to Anne's father, Otto Frank. Anne had revised her diary several times, and Otto Frank published her diary with some changes in 1947. In 1995, a definitive edition was published, and it restored a portion that was deleted by Otto Frank, including his complaints regarding his mother, the Van Daans and his curiosity about the changes in his body (Prose 6-9). There were questions about whether Otto Frank should remove some of the more pointed comments from Anne's diary. People thought that Otto Frank forgot too easily what the Germans did to the Jews, and he changed some of the themes in Anne's Diary. But some people argued that he did this because he wanted his daughter to seem like a better person and he wanted to protect some sensitive things that happened in the appendix (Prose 75).
