This quote means that some people hide behind a face or a mask and when someone finds out. Some won't be angry since most people lie these days, but it will be harder to trust the person. It also makes it seem like the person who lied is in a higher position. What this quote actually says is actually true because lying to a person makes it seem like you are actually better than them, so you don't have to tell them the whole truth. This type of situation can also be seen in literatures like “Soldier's Home”, “Hills like a white Elephant” and “A Clean Well Lighted Place by Ernest Hemingway”.
