Essay / Behavior Management Project - 1768
The subject of this discipline plan is a 7 year old first grade girl who attends Riverhall Elementary School. During the observation of this teacher candidate, the student demonstrated numerous disruptive behaviors and at times became defiant when these behaviors were addressed. This teacher candidate does not believe that the student has a specific disorder such as ADD or ADHD that is contributing to his or her behavior. When she wants to become a student, she is very bright and able to do her job well. This teaching candidate believes that it is the student's family life that contributes to this undesirable behavior. The student lives with his grandmother and is raised by her. Teacher candidates understand that the student's father is not present and his mother rarely visits him. His behavioral problems intensify after visits from his mother. These external factors have a negative impact not only on the student's behavior in class, but also on their work in class. Most of his daily disruptive behaviors are mild and easy to correct; Behaviors observed included rocking back in his chair and resuming this behavior shortly after being told not to, and speaking when the teacher spoke. These behaviors do not cause major disruptions in the classroom, however, as the class frequently moves from one activity to another throughout the day. Behavioral problems become more apparent during classroom instruction, the student is often off task and sometimes refuses to complete her work before moving on to another activity, she may sometimes cheat by saying she has completed her homework. The teacher strategically placed the student with another student who is mild-mannered and stays on task, thereby eliminating conflicts with other students. ...... middle of paper .......Works citedEvertson, CM, Emmer, ET, & Worsham, ME (2003).
