Essay / The Giver, Balance and Modern Society - 1193
In our modern world, many would describe this current generation as disappointing and sometimes even pathetic. We often categorize ourselves as greedy, trying to take more than we need. Many believe that our society is corrupt and cannot be fixed, although some just watch, much like in the book and movie. In "The Giver", the ancients gave the appearance of a perfect society, free of violence, problems and pain, but hid valuable information from many. They simply cast aside all their wrongdoings for the better of their perfect world which, in many cases, looks exactly like real life. Nowadays we don't openly receive information about the world unless it is discovered by someone else. The media gives us information and most of the time it's not really positive news. Like in the book, we are covered in a false security blanket, hidden from the stories our parents tried to hide from us. In “Equilibrium” everything was mechanical and what many would find absurd but in reality is exactly what our society is trying to become. Just like in the film and the book, we are hidden from something, maybe even from everything. Like in the movie and the book, we are trying to succeed in becoming a perfect utopian society and we are risking anything and everything to achieve it. Many have risked their lives, their families, their feelings and their own freedom just to imagine that they will have their ideal society. The book and film are definitely modern day satires and this essay will explain why. The nuclear family. The idea of a completely perfect family consisting of a man, a woman, a girl and a boy. This idea was most popular in the 1950s-196...... middle of paper ...... mirage of a perfect world and showed the truth. They showed what it feels like to not be able to know the true meaning of family, to not know how to truly feel emotions, to not be able to make mistakes or not have the freedom to say n anything just because you can do it. not. They showed us what the world would be like if we were all the same and what the true meaning of equality is. They showed us that modern society is not quite perfect, but it is good enough and should be cherished because you never know what will happen the next day. You'll never know when the world is going to end because we're already turning against each other just to get our picture of life perfect for a second. Works citedAuthor, U. 2014.
