    Drug Control ProgramsThe United States is grappling with one of the largest drug epidemics. More than almost any other country. Studies show that more than half of high school students will have tried at least one illicit drug before graduating (Hanson). One problem is that growing children are not properly informed about these medications. And without proper education about these medications, they become curious and want to try them. The sooner these children become addicted to drugs, the more likely it will lead to more illegal activities (Head). I think we need innovation that improves drug awareness among children and adolescents. The programs currently in place do not focus on the main points of drug prevention. Enhanced drug education programs are innovations that ensure a cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous future for children through better coping, emotional, and decision-making skills. With drug statistics so high, it is no wonder our government has intervened in a war on drugs. In the 1980s, crack cocaine use became scandalous in big cities (Head). And as the minority lifestyle declined, government intervention was necessary. So, in 1982, the Reagan party declared war on drugs (Head). And when Mrs. Reagan was asked what was the best way for a child to avoid drugs, she replied, "Just say no." In theory, this option sounds good, like when a stranger offers you drugs. It would be easy to say no. But when that person offering you drugs is a childhood friend or family member, your response may change. And with that, drug use will continue. So, as drug use among teenagers was still growing rapidly, the government needed something more than just television advertisements to reach these teenagers.
