  • Essay / The relationship between science and religion - 1381

The relationship between science and religion has been debated for many years. With strong personal opinions and beliefs, it is not surprising that no progress has been made in this debate. In my opinion, I feel like religion and science must be related in some way. There is no possible way for people to separate two things that are trying to prove the same facts. My belief is that a metaphorical bridge must be formed to connect the two. Personally, I feel that science can be a complement to religion and that scientific discoveries can and should be used to prove that God exists, not to disprove him. If science did this, then the relationship between science and religion could be friendly. If this happened, people could stop debating and fighting about both, allowing priests and scientists to talk and work together peacefully. First of all, it is important to realize that religion and science must be related in some way, even if they are not. as I mentioned previously. If religion and science were totally incompatible, as many claim, then any combination between them would logically be ruled out. This would mean that no one could take a religious approach to a scientific experiment, or vice versa. Not only does this happen, but it happens quite frequently. Scientists often describe their experiments and writings in religious terms, just as religious believers hold combinations of belief and doubt that are "much more reminiscent of what we would generally call a scientific approach to hypotheses and uncertainty." This just proves that even though they are not the same, religion and science must be related in some way. Throughout the last century, many scientists...... middle of paper ....... People will stay as they have. are reluctant to change, even if it means it creates a worse environment for everyone. This is exactly how the world works, and so it always will until someone decides to make a change. Works Cited Clayton, Philip. Religion and science: the basics. London: Routledge, 2012.
