Essay / Comment on the film "Rebel without a cause"
A simple film about a boy who doesn't fit into society? There is so much more. “Rebel Without A Cause” directed by Nicholas Ray has a much deeper meaning in the plot than most people understand after watching it for the first time. The key to understanding this meaning is to pay attention to each element of the film. Although components such as sound move the film forward, the plot would not be as developed without the camera placement, as well as the placement of the characters; It gives the audience an in-depth look at a specific character's inner feelings, usually hinting at who is in control of the situation. In every situation, there are always certain characters who are in control, and this is demonstrated by the placement of the character in a scene. This placement of characters reveals who is in a submissive attitude at this stage of their life, who remains calm and should be the one to dominate the conversation. This deliberate placement of characters by Nicholas Ray is shown when Judy is at the police station. She talks to who must be some sort of detective or policeman. In this scene, Judy is terribly confused and suffering because of her father. She loves him and says he hates everything about her, including her friends and her appearance. It's obvious that in this scene, Judy is clearly not the one in control. She is a mess, crying and sharing everything about her bad relationship with her father. Meanwhile, it's the detective who asks the questions and tries to help Judy, which allows him to be the one in control. The placement of the characters reflects this difference in character control: Judy sits in the corner of the room and is in complete pain. While the detective...... middle of paper ...... down to a low level, transmitted through the cameras, helps show the audience that what Jim is doing is not what it should do, and it's only I'm doing it because of the lack of models. For Nicholas Ray, putting so much thought and effort into character placement and camerawork makes for a much more enjoyable experience for the attentive viewer. Many people would simply overlook some of the things he does with the camera, but if you're one of those who don't, your understanding of the film and the characters increases colossally. And that's just one aspect of the film that Nicholas Ray paid so much attention to. He took the same care into other aspects of the film, like the sounds and the plot. He took a movie with a good plot and made it amazing, paying great attention to every little aspect of the movie..
