    Non-verbal communication Non-verbal communication is essential to human communication and represents 93% of all communication. Body language cues can either facilitate the delivery of the communication message or interfere with the communication message being sent. For example, when trying to portray the confidence and power of a leader, simple things such as placing the hand in a handshake or patting a colleague on the back can have a huge impact. Additionally, when you try to portray honesty under scrutiny; Cues such as emotional facial expressions, agitation, and body alignment can all indicate whether a speaker is being deceptive or not. For these reasons, it is important for communicators to examine their own bodies. This video focuses on the research behind body language and all nonverbal communication in general. Specific examples were broken down and discussed throughout the sequence. I found these examples quite fascinating, particularly the examination of politicians who benefit from body language coaching. I've listed some takeaways that I found below. That being said, being aware of my own body language is not something that comes naturally to me. However, there are some things I could do to improve this aspect of communication. The first thing that comes to mind is practice, practice and more practice! Practice might involve speaking in front of family and friends. Practice might also involve speaking more during work meetings and team functions. It's often too easy to sit back and not be active during work meetings. Additionally, recording a video of myself would be a great form of personal body language dissection. I'm often unaware of the body language signals I'm sending when speaking in front of others. Looking at images of myself would give me a great way to see the clues that show me
