From the beginning, it pits female athletes against the social domination of men. “Girls just didn’t run in public.” “No one on my all-male team would pass me.” “Dad told me I couldn’t be a boxer; he told me I was too small. The ad aims to reflect on scenarios from a culturally shared history of sexism in the United States. The ad presents itself as personifying the value of gender equality.
