Essay / Animal Farm by George Orwell - 981
According to the Oxford Canadian Dictionary, the word revolution means "the forcible overthrow of a government or social order, in favor of a new system." In the fictional novel Animal Farm, George Orwell tells the story of Soviet communism but where the characters are disguised as animals. Corruption of power is the cause of most revolutions. This is evident through how humans launch revolutions to demand justice, how their ego drives them to want more power, and how excessive power cannot be controlled. Throughout history, humans have launched revolutions to demand justice. In the novel, Old Major, a twelve-year-old prize boar, gathers all the comrades to tell them about the dream he had and to give them some of the advice and wisdom he has acquired throughout his life. “So what should we do? Well, work night and day, body and soul, for the overthrow of humankind! This is my message, comrades: rebellion! (Orwell 5). Old Major gives the comrades hope for a better future and lights their fires to start a revolution. The old major is not happy with the current treatment of the animals. He has a vision of what the future holds and the justice that could be achieved after a revolution. The two pigs Napoleon and Snowball take the lead after the death of the Old Major and begin to prepare the revolution. “Several nights a week after Mr. Jones went to sleep, they held secret meetings in the barn and explained the principles of animalism to the others” (Orwell 10). Snowball and Napoleon began preparing for revolution, hoping that justice would take its course through rebellion. They had a perfect vision of what their situation could be after the revolution. They knew they needed power to launch their projects and they hoped for justice...... middle of paper ...... and in a formal style like "our leader, comrade Napoleon", the pigs loved to invent titles for him such as “Father of All Animals” (Orwell 62). The comrades were brainwashed and began to view Napoleon, who is just an animal like them, as a father. On the wall next to the seven commandments, the animals even wrote him a poem. Excessive power and dictatorship make it easier to influence the public and make them believe information that is not necessarily true. To conclude, excessive power of an individual cannot be controlled, human ego drives a person to want more power and most revolutions are started. to demand justice are proof that the corruption of power is the cause of most rebellions. Throughout history, there have been many examples of corruption of power that led to different consequences. Revolutions are the consequences of the corruption of power.
