Modern researchers agree, citing the glass ceiling as a bigger problem than ever. In Mandel’s words, “…across the world, women have enjoyed considerable success in penetrating the management and professional classes. Our results indicate that the most pressing problem today is… the exclusion of women from the most coveted positions available in the grades in which they find themselves” (2009). Women make up almost half of the workforce, but only six percent of managers in large companies are women (Matsa 2011). So it is clear that there is still a problem for professional women who want to reach the higher levels of their career.
