  • Essay / Examples of White Privilege - 1551

However, when a member of a minority group does something wrong or illegal, it is often linked to the group as a whole. This is yet another example of white privilege. McIntosh said in his article: "I can swear, or dress in second-hand clothes, or not respond to letters without people attributing these choices to the bad morals, poverty or illiteracy of my race” and “I am never asked to speak for all people of my racial group” (para. 8). Often, negative stereotypes are created about minority groups based on the actions of a few group members. This negatively affects many individuals from minority groups because they are initially judged and have assumptions made about them simply because they have different skin.
