Daniel ProvenzoMs. RossEnglish 8 March 13, 2014Sir Michael Caine is one of the most renowned actors and authors of all time; from his young life as a starving artist to his role in over 115 films and being repeatedly honored with several prestigious awards. He became one of the most popular and influential English figures of all time. Born Maurice Micklewhite in London, England on March 14, 1933, into an average family whose father was a fish carrier and mother a housekeeper, Sir Michael Caine began his journey to stardom. From a young age, Caine was always interested in show business. At just 16, he left school to take the closest job to show business he could get, that of an office worker at Peak Films. In 1951, Caine joined the Queens Royal Regiment and the Royal Fusiliers to serve in Germany and Korea. After two years and now out of service, Michael went to work at Westminster Repertory in Horsham Sussex, then Lowestoft Repertory where he fell in love with his first wife, Patricia Haines. After the marriage, Michael and his new wife moved to London to pursue their acting careers. This took a toll on Michael as he had to put himself through many degrading jobs to make ends meet. In addition to the stress of lack of money, Patricia became pregnant and gave birth to their first daughter Dominique. After only a few years of marriage, things weren't going so well between them, so Patricia took her daughter and moved back in with her parents. Michael felt responsible and hopeless and ended up feeling entirely guilty for what had happened. Unemployed and broke, Michael returned to live with his parents. He won three Golden Globe Awards, one in 1984 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture for the film "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels", one in 1991 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Miniseries or Movie made for television. the films "Jack the Ripper" and "Hemingway", and the last in 1999 for best performance by an actor in a film for the film "Little Voice". He also appeared as Alfred in the later Batman films, which were nominated for several awards and for which some might say he is best known. Michael Caine is also the author of several best-selling books, including “Acting in Films,” “What’s It All About,” and “The Elephant in Hollywood.” One of his most famous quotes is “I'm older now; I don't get the girl, I get the part, which is much better." -Michael Caine. He may be older but he still has it.
