Although most of his evaluations were favorable, he feared comments that his course was also enjoyable; Edmundson does not teach to amuse or interest. He has a true passion for spreading knowledge, which allows him to hear students talk about how the course has changed them as a person, as an individual. (Edmundson, p. 390). Addressing the culture of the university, Edmundson believes that it is more devoted to consumer and entertainment values. The quality of education is declining because it gives the consumer what they want rather than what they need. Higher education is evolving into a technologically sophisticated society. The marketing aspect of financial and educational decisions is mostly about putting money in their pockets and making sure it stays there because of their tenure and permanent seats. They will still have jobs, but what about decisions about the quality of education? Or also have to cover the expenses of maintaining the latest technology and equipment? In order to maintain a balance in all of this, the school usually increases tuition, which causes a chain reaction of increasing costs for everything. As costs rise, school becomes undesirable for students who cannot afford it or for those who go into debt.
