Essay / Man's attempt to circumvent God: the debate on...
Life. Did you have free will to decide when your life began? If man did not have the power to decide when life began, why does man want to exercise the right to end it? Life is one of the most precious things humans have. Humans are the most complex of all creatures. Much time is devoted to debates about start and end of life issues such as euthanasia. Euthanasia is defined as a “gentle and easy death,” derived from the Greek language (Keown 10). A “gentle and easy death” indicates that death will not occur naturally, but through treatment or medication. Whether death comes through treatment or medication was not God's intention to end human lives. To illustrate this, the Bible says: “Or do you not know that your body is within you a temple of the Holy Spirit, whom you receive from God? You are not yours, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. (1 Cor. 6:19-20). The body is a temple and it is a gift from God. Human beings were bought at a high price for a valuable purpose. The euthanasia debate is a widespread and pressing issue in today's society, and perhaps one of the most popular. Euthanasia is a topic that will divide a room of people based on their beliefs. About three years ago, 22 percent of the Humane Society's 18 board members resigned over the controversial issue of euthanasia (Humane Society CEO Search Reignites Euthanasia Debate 2014). This is a controversial issue in which many believe a person should have the right to decide how they feel (EUTHANASIA will be debated at an event in Cheltenham this week 2014). Euthanasia is a highly debated and deeply divided topic due to personal beliefs or religion.
