    The most famous Flemish painter of the 16th century. Died at age 44. Traveled to many places, painting, studying. Worked in the industry of printmaking, engravings, also known for his realistic artistic methods. Pieter Bruegel the Elder, alias Peasant Bruegel, because he dressed as a peasant to attend weddings and parties. He could thus find information on the life of peasants for his paintings. Pieter Bruegel was born on September 9. No one knows for sure what year, but it is said to be between 1525 and 1530. Bruegel was born in the Netherlands. He is the only member of his family to be artistic. Living under the Brueghel dynasty, he abandoned the “h” and signed his paintings with Brugel. Pieter has worked in many places such as France, Italy and Antwerp. In 1551, in Antwerp, he was accepted as a master in the painters' guild. Visiting many different cities, he drew many religious paintings and organic views of different landscapes, during his early years. Later, Pieter Bruegel was Pieter Coecke van Aelst as his student. Where he studied with him and his other students in a studio to learn about small and large scale paintings. This workshop was in Brussels in 1544. Bruegel married Maycen, Coecke's daughter. He also had two children, Pieter Brueghel the Younger and Jan Brueghel the Elder, both of whom became painters. Their father died when the eldest son, Brueghel the younger, was only 5 years old. So they never received any training from their father. After the death of their mother Maycen, they lived with their grandmother, who was also a painter. His first paintings, such as the fights of Carnival and Lent, were influenced by Hieronymus Bosch.
