Essay / Pro-Life: Abortion is Unethical and Immoral - 1598
Among the nations' major controversies, the bilateral issue of abortion seems to be a popular but controversial debate. For several decades, abortion has been an endless conflict that has divided society. This bitter political fight created an unnecessary impasse that left the issue of abortion unresolved. What's right and what's wrong? Should a woman be allowed to have an abortion and deprive a child of life or should she be forced to give up her right to make her own decisions? Society is caught in the middle of this controversial issue because some people believe that the choice of whether or not to have an abortion should be up to the woman, while others consider it murder. Years ago, before abortion was legal, thousands of women had illegal abortions. using old methods, leading to serious infections and, in many cases, death. In 1973, the United States Supreme Court, by a vote of 7 to 2, ruled in favor of Norma L. McCorvey, stating that the government could not restrict or interfere with a woman's ability to have an abortion, thus legalizing the abortion in all 50 states (Clifton par .1). This was known as the Roe Vs. Wade case. Dismayed by this decision, pro-life activists attempted to abolish Roe in court, and in 1976 the Hyde Amendment was passed. This amendment prevented the government from funding abortions at the federal level. He emphasized partial birth abortions and implemented new laws stipulating that minors must receive permission from their guardians to obtain an abortion (Rasmussen par. 11). Since 1973, there have been approximately 52,008,665 abortions performed in the United States and I believe it is time we put an end to this abomination (NRLC par.7).
