Essay / Mythology In ancient Egyptian mythology - 1575
During his reign, the Egyptian had very barbaric characteristics. He is believed to have taught the Egyptians the way of agriculture and how to worship the gods. However, with the conflict between Seth and Osiris, he also became the god of the afterlife. After his reign, the Book of the Dead became a very important part of the history of the people of ancient Egypt, especially as it related to the idea of the afterlife. The Book of the Dead was “a collection of spells and illustrations written on a papyrus scroll” (Taylor 5). The purpose of the Book of the Dead was to serve as a guide for the journey through the underworld. “The Book of the Dead describes the ritual of the “Weighing of the Heart”. During this ritual,… a tribunal of 43 deities judged the behavior of the dead” (Ancient Egypt). Based on their religion and emphasis on life after death, Egyptians dedicated time to their world travel.
