. Although war, natural disasters, disease and crime are common occurrences, I am convinced that most people would be happy if they did not exist. In fact, I would argue that most people would say that these things indicate that all is not well in the world. The presence of suffering and evil in the world is a major problem for those who believe in God. In order to understand why this is a major problem, we need to think about it and understand what people believe about God. Most people believe that God is the creator of the world. They also believe that God is all-powerful (omnipotent), all-knowing (all-knowing), and all-good (benevolent) (Philosophy of Religion 200). However, if this is the case, the logical question arises as to why God would create a world where evil and suffering are present. Hence the “problem of evil”.
