Even though this story structure has not been directly attributed to Joseph Campbell, it nevertheless demonstrates the common pattern that most stories follow. The seeker, simply the one who goes on a quest, of this novel is none other than Amir. The reason he had to go to Pakistan is the fact that Rahim is ill and this might be the only chance for them to see each other again. It wasn't until Amir finally spoke with Rahim that he realized that Sohrab's adoption was the real reason for going there. Once again we find that the plot of this novel corresponds precisely to the outlines of other common stories. Although the section "challenges and trials along the way" is not present in this book, the main objective of realizing the true objective of the quest has indeed been achieved.
