Romania and communismThe communist regime in Romania was overall one of the harshest compared to what happened in other Central and Eastern European countries; except, of course, the Soviet Union under Stalin. Communism in Romania is presented from a political and economic perspective, as well as from a social perspective through the lack of freedom that affected the way of life of Romanians for many years. The history of Romania sees several criminal and political events through the communist regime. The Socialist Republic of Romania officially came into force from 1947 to 1989. The Romanian Communist Party, consisting of around 1,000 people, grew from a Leninist sect to a mass party and became an important element for the establishment of the personal dictatorship of Nicolae Ceausescu. The creation of the Romanian Communist Party (PCR) took place on May 8, 1921 and, from 1924 to 1944, it was called Romania Mare. Initially it was a small party until 1944, with around 300 members, mostly workers. The communists came to power on August 23, 1944, when Romania left the alliance with Germany. The goal of the communists is to secure a parliamentary majority. After the 1946 elections, the communists systematically liquidated dissent. In its evolution, the communist regime in Romania went through two stages: the Stalinist regime and the national-communist regime. Application of the Soviet model - Sovietization of society, economy and culture on the principle of class struggle, institutions of control, nationalization and collectivization and the phenomenon of Russification, i.e. -say Russian culture and the Russian language as a unique language.
