The Internet as a medium has been a subject of extensive debate, particularly in recent years with the rise of the World Wide Web. Analysis of relevant literature on the subject shows that the Internet is not a new media. This argument can be demonstrated by looking deeper into what defines a medium and what defines the Internet. From this analysis and from a historical perspective, the Internet can be considered an ancient medium that uses remediation to deliver content to users. The connection between the Internet and its users has helped the Internet influence the way media is viewed today. Although the Internet is not a new medium, the content it presents is new. Technological advancements have allowed the use of the Internet to reach new heights in terms of interest and its capabilities are now being used by the masses. This growing popularity suggests that the Internet is new. These points can be analyzed in more depth, which led me to consider that the Internet is not a new medium. The term “media” can be analyzed and can show how content is received by a wider audience. In this context, a medium refers to "an intervening agent, means, or instrument by which something is transmitted or accomplished", this definition comes from Dictionary.com. The Internet easily fits this description, as it is essentially a vast network with widespread nodes to keep the government in touch. This can be seen in the history and origins of the Internet. The history of the Internet shows that the Internet is not a new medium. The Internet was originally created in the 1960s to allow the United States to stay connected in the event of a nuclear fallout due to possible consequences of the Cold War. F...... middle of paper ......several times, television media has slowly evolved into the digital format. Digital television has the advantages of high definition resolution and an electronic TV guide. Despite these developments in the television medium, I do not consider it new, I consider the television medium as a novelty resulting from inevitable technological advances. The evolution of the Internet can also be observed in this way. Packet switching technology gave way to the ability to efficiently transfer files over the Internet, this ability gave way to the dawn of the World Wide Web and faster Internet transfer speeds lead to increasingly larger files transferred over the Internet. It is clear from this that the Internet is not a new medium, but it contains features that make it seem new. Certain implications are observed when the Internet is considered new.
