Essay / Is abortion immoral? - 874
What is abortion? Abortion is clearly defined as the termination of a human pregnancy. This procedure is most often performed during the first 28 weeks of the pregnancy cycle. Abortion can be considered wrong, morally and lawfully, from many perspectives in today's society. However, the abortion procedure is moral until the evidence appears. Abortion is not murder, it is considered constitutional and it is generally up to the woman to choose whether or not to carry her pregnancy to term. Therefore, the evidence that abortion is unethical is lacking. Abortion is termination, not murder. It is a matter of opinion or religious belief when human life actually begins. Therefore, the idea of personhood at the time of conception is also considered to be just an opinion or belief (abortionProCon.org). For example, most Christian religions believe that human life begins at conception, while Hindus and some members of Judaism believe the opposite. Every religion has its own beliefs and opinions, but none prove the reality of the real beginning of human life. Since it is not scientifically proven that the fetus is a person at the time of conception, it is not written into the laws (abortionProCon.org). This means that the fetus does not have the same rights as the average human being, such as the mother who carries it. For example, you can sue a woman with an argument full of facts and details, but you cannot do so with the fetus in the woman's womb. The woman has rights to protect, but not the fetus. That said, terminating the pregnancy does not kill the fetus, because it does not enjoy the human rights of a living being (Luhrman). This simply eliminates an unwanted embryo whose rights belong to the mother. When Roe v.
