  • Essay / Art: Compare and Contrast 19th Century Art

Everyone was uniquely created and there is no other that is like anyone else. People think differently, dress differently, and like or dislike certain things. This is similar to 19th century artists including Pierre Etienne Théodore Rousseau and Joseph Mallord William Turner. They are both 19th century artists and painted at the same time; however, there is a difference between their styles, perspective and landscape. There are, however, similarities between the two paintings. The paintings that will be compared and contrasted are “Under the Birch Trees, Evening” and “The Campo Santo, Venice”. The first painting, “Under the birch trees, in the evening”, was created by Pierre Etienne Théodore Rousseau. He was born on April 15, 1812 in Paris, France. His family saw that he had great potential as an artist and as their business was profitable, they tried to ensure that their son would succeed in what he is good at ("Pierre Etienne Théodore Rousseau"). He was good at what he loved to draw landscapes. “However, he did not base his style on classically inspired landscapes as was the case in Italy; rather, it was inspired by a Dutch landscape from the 17th century” (Medieval and Renaissance Art). that he went against the norms and standards of drawing a landscape and created his own style, as the title suggests, it was one evening when he painted it. The environment he chose was rocky and because it was during the evening he created darker imagery. or maybe that's how he saw it. Later, he changed his style and began to draw his pictures lighter and less dark and frightening ("Pierre Etienne Théodore Rousseau"). However, it was the best of his work which is in progress...... middle of paper .......Joseph Mallord William Turner. “Campo Santo, Venice.” The masterpiece of the Toledo Art Museum. The Andrew W.
