Essay / Class - 750
There are about 4 different classes in American society today. There is the lower class, the working class, the middle class, and then the upper class. But in reality there are only 3 classes. The middle class doesn't really exist in my opinion because the government sometimes combines the lower class and the working class to form the middle class which doesn't exist. The highest percentages of American citizens are either in the lower class or the working class. Then the smallest percentage, which would be about 1-3% of Americans, is in the upper class. People from the lower classes are symbolized by poverty, homelessness and unemployment. People in this class, few of whom have completed high school, suffer from lack of medical care, adequate housing and food, decent clothing, and security. The working class is made up of poorly educated people who engage in "manual labor" with little or no prestige. Unskilled workers in this class are dishwashers, cashiers, housekeepers, and waitresses, are generally underpaid and have no opportunity for career advancement. Qualified people in this class will likely work as carpenters, plumbers, or electricians. The middle class is divided in two; there is a lower middle class and an upper middle class. The lower middle class is often made up of people with less education and lower incomes, such as executives, small business owners, teachers, and secretaries. While the upper middle class is often made up of highly educated and high-income businessmen and professionals, such as doctors, lawyers, stockbrokers, and even CEOs. The upper class is also divided in two just like the middle class. There is an upper lower class and an upper upper class. The individuals included in middle of paper...... are filled with almost all blacks, and half of the prisoners are there because of drug charges. I never heard that the cops raided a white guy's house in a nice neighborhood and found a lot of drugs. It's not like only blacks and Hispanics are the only ones using illegal drugs, white people are using them too. Class also determines the type of treatment an individual receives in court and the quality of their attorney. There was a report on the news once that a rich white kid was under the influence while driving and then ended up crashing and killing individuals and all the kid got was a favor community probation. For what? Due to the class the child's parent is in. Let's say it was a black kid who drove under the influence and had an accident, killing several people, he will probably get a life sentence because of his class and especially because of his race..
