Essay / Media Control in Social Media - 1247
Time is the most valuable aspect of a teenager's life. The vast potential found in his youth may or may not be realized depending on how he uses his time. Therefore, what parents allow their children to work in is crucial for their development. Social media is one of the most important tools of influence in today's society. How prevalent is social media use? 73% of teens are on or involved in social media. 60% of adults think parents should have complete control over everything their children do online. The importance of these statistics is increasing due to the supreme influence of social media. Until recently, parental supervision was the method used to monitor children's social media activity. However, the effectiveness of parental monitoring is being questioned and, in some cases, contested by schools through the institution of new “educational monitoring systems” intended to ensure safety while preserving student privacy. Since authority over children's education is vested in schools by their parents, authority to monitor children's social media activity should also originate within the home. There is no doubt that social media has the potential to do this, and in some cases. has already created opportunities for negative influence to spread widely. The lack of self-control and filtration of thoughts/emotions often found in social media activity opens the door to danger with life-destroying capabilities. People, especially young people, do not understand the impact their actions can have not only on themselves, but also on others. The consequences of the decisions they make are also not understood. This has been a problem; they need to think long term... middle of paper...... guidance and an ideal growth environment can be provided. Implementing these ideas will lead to improvements in the quality of life (especially social) within the home and the education system. In the eyes of many, this debate is about more than who should monitor children's online activity. It’s about where true authority lies, whether in the state or within the home. This is a significant advance in principle. Parental influence in a child's life is irreplaceable. This influence should not be challenged by the overwhelming surveillance of students by sources outside the household without authorization. A society is only as strong as the homes that make it up. Will this truth be thwarted and cause future generations of society to suffer? It depends on how children learn today to live in the real world of tomorrow..
