Essay / Gay marriage: between man and woman or love and love?
Many people's idea of conventional marriage was simply seen as a sacred union shared between a man and a woman. Opponents of same-sex marriage believe that legalizing same-sex marriage has no positive effect on economic issues. To prove others wrong, one example is that same-sex marriage had an economic impact in New Jersey, which raised $248 million in 3 years by creating approximately 800 new jobs and adding $19 million to government funding. (Vespa-Papaleo) “New York City's comptroller estimated that legalizing same-sex marriage would bring $142 million to the city's economy and $184 million to the state's economy over three years . » (Thompson) Money for a legal marriage license requires money that generates higher tax revenues and lowers the costs of state benefit programs. (Perry) Every individual should be equal and have the same rights and should not be limited in the right to marry whoever they want. Same-sex marriage should therefore be legalized. Gay marriage makes it easier for couples who want to have children to adopt, allowing children in need to adopt stable homes with a suitable family to care for them. As reported in Pediatrics, studies found that children of lesbian mothers scored higher than children of heterosexual parents on social and academic skills and had fewer social problems. (Gartrell) This indicates that same-sex couples are capable of raising children even though they are not their own flesh and blood. Ezra Klein expressed his opinion thus: “We should beg homosexual couples to adopt children. We should see this as a great boon that same-sex marriage could bring to children who only need two loving parents.
