Essay / Hardworking Athletes Deserve to Get Paid - 1373
Hardworking Athletes Deserve to Get PaidThe NCAA has been taking advantage of college athletes for quite a while now in the fact that everyone except the athletes wins a lot of money. What if they spent most of their time training and working hard physically and mentally just so other people would take the credit and make more money from their hard earnings? That wouldn't be fair, would it? So why is it acceptable to do this to NCAA athletes, that would then be my question. NCAA athletes work hard physically and mentally an average of 43 hours a week, more than the average American worker, and they don't even get paid. It’s time these workers were paid for their contributions to college campuses. The NCAA's argument is that athletes are just students, but they make students miss school to travel and play games on national television, which brings in more revenue, including a sum of almost $71. million dollars in surplus for its 2012 fiscal year, according to an audited financial statement released by the association. On average, a full Division 1 scholarship is worth just $25,000 per year, compared to $71 million. If the school were really that important to the NCAA, its athletes wouldn't miss classes just for a game. It might be OK for the money to go back into the classroom, but the fact is that a handful of that money goes to administrators, athletic directors and coaches. Yes, it is true that some players receive a full scholarship to their university. but even if they do, how early do they have to find a real paying job just to have some money for gas or food? None. It's almost impossible for an NCAA athlete to play their sport, focus on their studies, and hold down a job at the same time. Athletes are not asked... middle of paper ... money they give their athletes, mainly because of their good grades, and then the athletes work hard in school to get that payment from school. When it comes to the NCAA organization, there is no doubt that the people who work there would not have jobs or make as much money as they do without college athletes. Giving athletes a little extra money is the least they can do to give back. College athletes are what run the show and provide many job opportunities for other people. There are many options for the NCAA to help these athletes get some money to help them with everyday expenses. Times have changed and so have college sports. People are noticing and starting to speak out about what is right. These athletes deserve some sort of compensation for the entertainment they bring to the rest of the world..
