“Blessed be the influence of one true and loving human soul upon another.” -George EliotRomeo and Juliet is a play about young love, loss, and the bond between friends and family. Throughout the tragedy, each of the characters influences Romeo and Juliet in one way or another. Although many of these characters have some sort of hold on the naive Juliet, they have a stronger hold on the somewhat gullible Romeo. This influence they have over Romeo leads him to make several rash and impulsive decisions. However, it can also cause him to stop and think depending on the character influencing him. In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Romeo is influenced by many characters, including Mercutio, Benviloi and Juliet, respectively by their manner of joking, peaceful composition and loving attitude. Through his jokes and jokes, Mercutio often persuades Romeo to act before thinking and gaining self-confidence. When they talk about the party the Capulets are throwing, Romeo tells Mercutio that he can't dance because his unrequited love for Rosaline has turned him into a leader. Mercutio responds by saying that he is a lover, that he should “borrow Cupid’s wings and fly with them over common ground” (Shakespeare 821). Romeo responds by stating that he is in too much pain to do so, and Mercutio says that he takes the burden of love too seriously and has lost all his mind. Mercutio's reference and joke about Cupid helps Romeo make the decision to attend the party. Later that night, after the party at the Capulets' where Romeo meets Juliet for the first time, he rushes to see her again. Mercutio and Benvolio try to search for him in the streets of V...... middle of paper ......where she was buried. He decides to commit suicide, saying that he will remain in the tomb with Juliette, "with worms who are [his] maids." Where [there] [he] will establish [his] eternal rest” (Shakespeare 923). Juliet's love for Romeo and his love for her leads her to change many things in her life and ultimately put an end to it. During Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is under the influence of Mercutio with his pleasant demeanor, Benvilo with his peaceful demeanor and Juliet with her loving attitude. Mercutio often boosts morale and gives Romeo more self-confidence. Benvolio helps keep Romeo calm and reasonable throughout each of his trials. Finally, Juliette gives him hope thanks to her eternal love for him. Romeo is often influenced by many characters, but he is influenced by those he keeps closest to him and loves the most..
