According to the American Psychological Association (APA), “tailored cognitive behavioral therapy and, to some extent, interpersonal psychotherapy can help people stop bingeing and purging, accepting their appearance and developing healthier methods. to cope with stressful situations” (Promising, 2002). Brandy would need to see a therapist and a nutritionist. She should work with them to realize the seriousness of this disorder and the damage it has already done to her body; damages such as her dental and menstrual problems. This therapy would help Brandy keep her emotions and urges to purge under control. This treatment plan will also help him regain his weight by helping him start eating normally. Finally, this therapy will help Brandy overcome her feeling that everyone looks at her with disgust and her feelings of being fat. Brandy's treatment for depression could be antidepressant medication if she chooses. Brandy could also treat her depression with other non-pharmaceutical treatments, such as exercising, taking on a new project, eating healthier, and sleeping.
