How often do you get into your car thinking it's going to explode? probably never. The Challenger passengers didn't think so either. The Challenger explosion was a disastrous, life-changing event in history. Many things happened before the challenger burst into flames. The cost of the space shuttle was about 1.2 billion. (Hanson 26+) To avoid disaster and any problems, millions of dollars were wasted trying to keep the Challenger safe. Lots of things like space simulation crashes, computer shutdowns, engine failures and many other things along those lines. We all know it was unsuccessful. The Challenger took off from Cape Canaveral, Florida. In 1949, this site was the area where the Air Force tested missiles and missile systems. Many NASA shuttles have launched from here, including the Gemini and Apollo flights. From 1963 to 1973, the shuttle site was changed to "Cape Kennedy" in memory of President Kennedy.
