Essay / Euthanasia: should be illegal in all 50 states
Today, there is a vast debate about the situation and consequences of euthanasia. Euthanasia is the act of ending the life of a human being by lethal injection or by stopping drug or medical treatment. This practice is today denied by most of the population and is illegal in all fifty states of the United States. Usually, those who undergo this treatment suffer from an illness or “unbearable” pain somewhere in the body or mind. Since there are other ways than ending life, to end the pain caused by illness or depression, euthanasia is immoral, a disgrace to humanity, according to the Hippocratic Oath, and should be illegal everywhere in the United States. option, patients should understand that there are other ways to relieve pain caused by illness or depression. For example, palliative care is available in today's society. Palliative care is a medical specialty based solely on pain and very advanced in current technology. If patients seeking euthanasia underwent this treatment, they would feel no pain, or as much pain as they normally would, and the pain would be more tolerable (O'Steen). Furthermore, in most situations, death wish or suicidal death, which has proven to be clinical depression, can be treated with medication and sympathetic counseling (Bonin). In the eyes of Christians, euthanasia is immoral, especially for the Schindler family. Their daughter Terry Schiavo was euthanized. He was diagnosed with hypoxic encephalopathy at the age of twenty-six. She became a human vegetable, a person who lacked the ability to move or think properly, and as a result, tubes were used to feed her and keep her alive. Her husband filed a lawsuit to have the tubes removed. Terry's family...... middle of paper ....... As the Church says, euthanasia goes against the dignity of a living person and constitutes a crime against humanity (“Declaration on Euthanasia”). In conclusion, euthanasia has been proven to be immortal and should remain illegal throughout the United States. It is the act of killing someone, which constitutes murder, and can result in doctors being sent to prison or serious legal action against others. This can break up families, one side may want the patient euthanized and the other may want them to stay alive. This would lead to fights and leave a scar on the family bond. The patient may never have wanted to die, but his guardians made the decision for him. Their life, which they might have wanted to keep, was cut short simply by the hand of another person. It's their life, not anyone else's; no one should have the power to end their life, not even themselves. It's God's decision, not a human's..
