This is the argument for sociological explanations of rape. Men who live in cultures where men treat women equally and are less aggressive toward women are less likely to be rapists. Sociological theories hold that men learn to rape and that their values and beliefs are conducive to rape. Feminist ideas from this theory argue that our American culture has positive values regarding rape and that is why rape is more common. Men dominate women, men are considered inferior to women, and women occupy marginal status in our patriarchal culture.
