  • Essay / Analysis of the documentary 'Louise Theroux Law And...

Philadelphia is the height of crime in the United States, with more than 30 to 40 homicides per month and drug-related crimes. This ties in with the other text we're looking at, the novel "Damage Done" and shows that sometimes facts get in the way of a good story. All of this reinforces the current idea that Australia has one drug, in the same way that there would probably be an ice epidemic. This doc follows Theroux on the drug-fighting streets of Philadelphia as he interviews criminals and follows police to find out what's really happening on the streets of Philadelphia. Certain events were chosen to promote this point of view to the public, including the interview with the street boys, showing how carpeted Philadelphia is and how they talk about the "code of silence - never snitch!" ". There were all these confronting images of the corpse left in the abandoned house, coming from a presumed doe on the ice. The drug problem in Philadelphia is portrayed in a way that they control the streets, nothing happens unless it is drug related. These parts were deliberately highlighted throughout the documentary to convey the most dramatic message to the points of view, much like the novel. This depiction achieves the goal of getting the message across about how street gangs and drugs are taking over the streets. This message impacts and affects how listeners perceive this type of action and makes them believe it is happening all around them. This documentary aims to inform and promote the understanding of this type of actions, all this is achieved with the help of filming.
