Essay / Importance of Leadership in Social Life and Business
As a collectivist society, we have to deal with a large number of people in our social life. This can range from family members, people living in the same neighborhood, friends and work colleagues. According to Patrick Alain of Leaders Industry Magazine, human beings are social animals and living together in large groups naturally meant that people had to adopt different roles and perform in different groups (Alain, 2012). We therefore interact differently with different people adopting different roles. In other words, sometimes we need to act as a leader to solve a specific problem or as a follower to help, for example, solve a community problem. Say no to plagiarism. Additionally, leaders motivate their followers to take a specific course of action to achieve this common goal. For example, the recent Pashtun uprising across the Durand Line is a good example of leadership in social life bringing about changes towards equality and justice. Overall, leaders and leadership are important in our social life to bring about positive change. enhance people's contribution, bring order and unity, as well as inspire and motivate followers towards the achievement of desired common goals. For businesses to be profitable, they must innovate. There are so many dynamics in the business environment today that it is difficult and challenging to keep up with all the changes. To meet customer needs, constant innovation is necessary to be profitable, efficient and differentiate the company from its competitors. Jeffrey Overall of Nipissing University, in his article on a conceptual framework for innovation and performance, argues that leadership is the key to innovation. In other words, to evolve the culture of an organization towards innovation, encourage employees to contribute, develop their skills and stimulate performance and commitment, the existence of affective leaders is important. When the quality of the relationship is high and valued by all members of the organizational hierarchy functioning under management, the chances of employee loyalty to the organization are greater (Overall, 2015). Additionally, as affective leaders create self-confidence in followers, they also build morale, initiate actions, and motivate to create an affective work environment. Ultimately, a company will most likely be able to achieve its goals and objectives in the presence of an effective leader. I believe that leadership and management must go hand in hand to achieve the goals and objectives of an organization. Management and organization in the absence of an effective leader adapted to the context would be difficult. It is the responsibility of the management of an organization to mobilize the company's resources, including human resources, finances and equipment, to provide the best goods or services and generate the desired profits or achievements. Likewise, when people are motivated and trust their management, money is invested in the right projects or products and equipment are placed in the right places, a company's goals will be achieved. Therefore, management must understand these key leadership skills tocreate a culture within the organization that derives from the values and vision of the organization. The World Health Organization, in its Operations Manual for its staff, defined leadership as “creating a vision” and management as “getting things done through the balanced participation of people” (WHO, 2010). In other words, managing is about making decisions. Decisions must be effective, efficient, economical and promote equity, which involves elements of leadership. Overall, leadership and management are two key elements in creating a vision and executing the goals to achieve the set vision and make effective decisions. In every workplace, there is a chain of command or hierarchy of positions. Relationships are managed by the organizational structure. The importance of leadership appears in managing relationships between individuals in a workplace. Illustrating the example of a good leader versus a bad leader will clearly show how important leadership is in a workplace. Good leaders are clear about what needs to be done. They are therefore clear and create clear visions and goals for colleagues to follow. In the same way, a bad leader will confuse his subordinates and there will be no clear instructions. A good leader generates new ideas, inspires others to follow them, and persists in achieving results. Whereas a bad leader lacks creativity and cannot inspire others to follow him. In summary, to create an efficient and effective workplace, it is important to develop leaders who can lead a business to success. As discussed during the course and according to Learn Loft educational video, only 26% of leadership traits are linked to genetics. The other remaining skills can be learned and practiced. If students learn during class time how to be an effective leader, I think it creates a sense of appreciation for skills that will serve them well throughout their lives. Additionally, it is important for students to experience leadership during school so that they can develop good relationships, work as a team to achieve a mission, communicate better and develop soft skills. I believe that when students are put in a situation where they can act as a leader and influence team members, encourage, motivate, make decisions and create trust among team members, the Experience gained will be valuable for a lifetime. We all live in a society where we interact with a variety of people. Some of these people are leaders who make our daily work easier. For example, there are local shuras or community elders who coordinate community activities, make decisions on their behalf, or resolve a dispute. Additionally, the mechanism of representation of a society through individuals in government illustrates the importance of leadership to a society. It is the grace of their leadership that will define how a society will shape itself. If a Shura leader is corrupt or indifferent to the benefits of the community, that community will not be a source of inspiration. Or, if a leader of a society chooses to seek only his own interest, the society will not evolve towards prosperity and development. History bears witness to the existence of great leaders who shaped the history of a society. Martin Luther King fought for the civil rights of black people and changed the way society at the time viewed them. Nelson Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid or anti-racial segregation and discrimination revolutionary.
