  • Essay / Effects of Ultrasound - 2083

Ultrasound is an important feature of technology used in our world today. The medical world uses ultrasound and skin. There are thousands of different types of ultrasound scans and help doctors and patients detect specific diseases and conditions they might not otherwise see. However, even though ultrasound is beneficial to people, many wonder if ultrasound could also have harmful effects. Many wonder how ultrasound actually works. Ultrasound is actually more complex than it seems. First, the ultrasound machine transmits high-frequency sound pulses into your body using a probe, then the sound waves travel through your body and reach a boundary between tissues (Freudenrich, 2011) . An example of this would be between fluids and soft tissues and soft tissues and bones. After that, some of the sound waves are reflected back to the probe, while others continue until they reach another limit and are reflected back. The reflected waves are then captured by the probe and relayed to the machine. The machine calculates the distance between the probe and the tissue or organ using the speed of sound in the tissue and the return time of each echo. Finally, the device displays the distances and intensities of the echoes on the screen, forming a two-dimensional image like the one shown below (Freudenrich, 2011). Ultrasound has been part of the medical world since the 1940s. The effects of acoustic vibrations on the body have been studied as early as the 6th century. Then, ultrasound became widely accepted as a therapeutic treatment... middle of paper ..., and as technology improved, machines became smaller, portable, and available for use at the bedside patient.ReferencesAnonymous.
