  • Essay / The Creationism Debate - 709

Creationism taught in public schools is not correct because there are many beliefs about how the earth was created. Many science teachers have different beliefs on this particular topic. Some believe that it should not be taught in public schools but in free time, at home, in church, or elsewhere. Other science teachers believe that students should learn every credible theory about evolution and creationism. Some science teachers have gotten into trouble with the law for not obeying other laws regarding evolution and creationism. This has caused much controversy in the scientific world. Although many students have different views on creationism, not all are very accurate in how they describe the teachings of evolution and creation. This is why others should stop fighting against creationism and start obeying and respecting the laws regarding this subject. It has been questioned that many teachers across the country do not prefer to teach creationism in the classroom. A Plos Biology survey indicates that only 12 to 16 percent of the nation's biology professors have a creationist orientation. It also indicates that about 1/6 of the teachers professed the “young earth” belief and 1/8 said they taught creationism in a positive light (Plos Biology). This statistic tells the public that creationism is not very popular. Teachers who teach creationism run the risk of being ridiculed for the way they teach their students. Some science teachers don't even know what to teach in class and are overwhelmed with their work. This is just one reason why many biology professors and others are against creationism. There are also many different laws regarding creationism. The United States Supreme Court ruled that it was... in the middle of a paper... The battle is intensifying in America's public schools.
