The only way bad fishermen will be stopped is if they do something. The Department of Environmental Conservation and the Coast Guard work together to crack down on fishermen who don't follow the rules. Very strict laws are passed and heavy fines are imposed on those who do not follow the rules. Fishermen must understand that they are not only taking a risk by not respecting the laws, but they are also putting the environment at risk. Sooner or later, the fish population will decrease significantly. (“Saltwater Fishing”1). Some experts working in the fishing industry recommend that fishing boats should only be allowed out a few days per month. More and more restrictions are being placed on fish, such as catch limit and size. Some experts even recommend satellite monitoring of boats. (“overfishing our oceans”1). Many precautions are being taken and experts are trying to think of ideas that could help solve this problem. Experts have some great ideas and one of them is to enlarge the mesh of fishing nets so that smaller fish can escape and live to reproduce. Some fishermen may be offended by this, but it is for the good of the environment. The laws become more and more strict with the seasons and it will soon be much more difficult to fish. Soon we won't be able to just go out and fish. To go fishing now, the individual must have a boating safety certificate and a saltwater and freshwater fishing license depending on the individual's preference. The Coast Guard gives big tickets to those who don't follow the rules in the hope that the individual will not break the rules.
