The rules and regulations for each of these states are slightly different. “Oregon law allows terminally ill residents to end their lives by voluntarily self-administering lethal medications, expressly prescribed by a physician for that purpose” (Trossman, 2015). The individual must have a terminal illness with less than six months to live and be a competent adult (Procon.org, 2015). This is important to note because it does not allow a doctor to simply prescribe medication to anyone who wishes to end their life. This allows the patient to die on their own terms in the face of a terminal illness that will cause the patient to die in a way they do not want.
