    During the Pequot War, a war broke out over a land dispute between English settlers, allied with the Narragansett and Mohegan tribes, and the Pequot tribe, the inhabitants of New England. killed more than 700 Pequot Indians and sold the surviving natives into slavery in the West Indies. The Spanish colonies and New England were both somewhat different and largely similar in the way indigenous peoples were treated. The Spanish colonies and New England were largely similar because both colonies married natives. The Spanish colonies and New England intertwined their culture with that of the natives. Aside from intermarriage with native tribes, the Spanish and New England colonies were largely similar in that both colonies enslaved Indians. Colonists used enslaved native people to help their economy thrive. Although largely similar, the New England and Spanish colonies were somewhat different because the English married natives to change their ways, while the Spanish did not use marriage as a means to change natives. The colonies were also different because the Spanish actually used the native slaves in their colonies while New England mainly sold the natives.
