The materials I studied about diversity in the United States certainly gave me a better understanding and allowed me to build relationships with others in a way that perhaps I hadn't in the past. As a young adult, I found myself influenced by different social stigmas and stereotypes set forth by society. We often tend to forget the importance and values that the culturally diverse United States conveys. Instead of making fun of other ethnicities and culturally diverse groups, we can learn from them. The United States continues to grow more and more thanks to immigration. The many different cultures, ethnicities, religions and beliefs make up what we call the “melting pot” in which we live. It's common to be afraid of the unknown. This is what gives rise to prejudice, judgment towards others and discrimination. Being a minority myself and having parents from 2 different cultures has helped me better understand the constant struggle we must endure to be accepted, respected and successful. The population of the United States is expected to see a significant increase by 2050. This will be mainly due to immigration which brings honor to the Asian and Hispanic communities. This dramatic increase will be driven by migration and high birth rates of immigrants, particularly Hispanics. According to studies, the number of immigrants will increase from 1.4 million per year in 2005 to approximately 2.1 million per year by 2050. In my opinion, the majority of immigrant families are larger. Therefore, the birth rates of 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants will play an important role in this significant increase. Furthermore, our land's golden promise of opportunity will continue to be a factor. Many families will... middle of paper ......uh young Latino men in my community. I can mentor children thanks to my love of sports. Trust and respect can be demonstrated through sportsmanship. It can also teach responsibility and is reflected in my desire to continue my education and achieve my goals despite obstacles and constant struggle. I can lead by example. I don't have to engage in conversations that seem biased or disrespectful to cultures. If I have chosen to participate in such a forum, I may do so with the intention of opposing the negativity and highlighting the more positive aspects. It is a favorable quality to be able to express opinions that will only lead to positive results or lay the foundation for an ongoing forum. Each of us is responsible for our own behaviors and must always remember that diversity is a good thing if we allow ourselves to prosper and grow..
