In Asian countries, students are not required to give presentations during their studies. However, in Western countries, presentation is considered a measure to examine what students have studied or whether they have prepared for class (Stephen Lin and Molly Yang, 2009). Asian students may feel nervous during the presentation. This means they are afraid of making mistakes and being in the spotlight. Additionally, they care about what other students thought of their presentation. For example, when they propose the idea or introduce the topic, they expect to attract the attention of others and gain a sense of identity. When they make mistakes, they fear being considered “very stupid” by their audience. In some situations, presentation anxiety can have serious health consequences for international students, such as dizziness, stomach upset, and rapid breathing. (King's College London).
