San Diego is home to many people who work hard during the week and long for their days off to visit the many attractions the city has to offer. Whether commuting to work or heading to Balboa Park for a family outing, San Diegans know that MTS is here to ensure they arrive at their destination in a convenient and timely manner. Being the second largest city in California, San Diego is vulnerable to frustrating rush hour traffic, but people are slowly recognizing MTS's efforts to alleviate this problem and ensure they not only get to their destination on time, but that they do it effectively; cost is not an issue and routes are well planned to avoid traffic. People often have a low opinion of public transport; MTS became an exception because it was invested in creating a positive experience for both San Diegans who use the transportation system daily or those who ride a bus just once. Since my freshman year of high school, I have encountered peers who rely on public transportation to get to school every day since the school bus system does not serve their neighborhood. These were students who looked forward to coming to school every day and relied on MTS to get them to school on time every day. Likewise, my mother relies on MTS to arrive on time to work every morning and home every afternoon. Students and adults have had little or no problems with the transportation system; If there were problems, MTS was able to adjust its schedules or routes to serve the community. A friend who recently started using public transportation to school told me about the interesting experiences she had while using public transportation...... middle of paper . .....t the rising price of gas and the ridiculous cost of decent insurance. Then I took buses and trams when someone was taking the family car to work and I had to take care of my own interests; I've noticed that most people feel uncomfortable around so many people. Yet when a passenger needs help, a conversation emerges and a new connection is made. I'm generally a shy person, but I think public transportation has helped me strengthen my communication skills. I am just an MTS customer; the difference this can make for all San Diegans can be enormous. People underestimate public transport because it has a very negative connotation; MTS is an exception because they have invested to ensure that young people, seniors, adults and people with disabilities all have the same opportunity to rely on a clean, efficient and user-friendly way to transport their citizens where they need to be..
