The origin of “gangs” can be traced back to the post-revolutionary era. At first, gangs were only meant to protect or serve as a club for certain people. The gang revolutions have since taken a much worse turn. There are approximately 785,000 known and active gangs in America alone. Gangs have appeared in almost every country, on every continent, each with their own style. Caucasians, African Americans, Hispanics, and Asians are all linked to gang history. Gang culture is generally related to the amount of criminal misdeeds, relevance, and competitiveness of the gang. A gang's criminal misdeeds can build its reputation. Misdemeanors such as robberies, assaults, and even petty theft can help a small gang build a reputation in the area they are located, but can be easily controlled by the local police department. The largest gangs are known to be associated with murder, drug trafficking and human trafficking, which is on another level, well beyond the scope of local policing, but which constitutes the main concern of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
