    According to the Institute for Legal Reform of the United States Chamber of Commerce, "the tort system is truly broken and has badly in need of repair. » Tort cases are becoming an extremely common fight in the country's legal system. Since 1986, 38 of the 50 United States have adopted some sort of tort reform. However, given the many flaws in the current tort system, the suffering U.S. economy will continue to fall behind if the American public does not insist on fighting for justice in the legal system. The governing bodies of these states must continue to seek reforms and propose strategies to address corruption in the tort system. The legal system put in place by the founding fathers will experience corruption in the negligence of these governing bodies. Tort law is a branch of civil law that establishes a person's rights when a harmful act is committed against a person or their property. Tort crimes occur when negligence or intentional civil wrong is committed that does not arise from contract or law. A crime is an act that harms a person mentally, physically, emotionally, or in any other way. Tort also includes damage to property or reputation. Torts typically seek compensation which usually results in a dollar amount to cover the cost of the damages. Through the tort system, victims seek redress for a wrongdoing committed against them, holding the person legally responsible and hoping to prevent the wrong from happening again. However, as compensation is involved in tort cases, the system has begun to become more corrupt and the legal system begins to suffer abuse.
